Full description here. Apply here. Application deadline: April 30, 2024.

UMA seeks a Research and Policy Fellow to work with programs and communications staff to analyze public policies, engage and inform partners, and design recommendations that support UMA’s vision. The fellowship is a summer opportunity (with an option to extend) for young, emerging leaders to learn how to analyze and develop public policy recommendations rooted in equitable economic development frameworks.

Throughout this program, Fellow(s) collaborate with UMA staff, partners, and community stakeholders to analyze innovative solutions to current issues on how the manufacturing sector can drive equitable community development through workforce development, access to capital, land use/real estate, among other topics. Fellows will gain a deeper understanding of the various sub-sectors related to their fields of focus while honing their project management, policy analysis, network building, and development skills. This is a fully remote position.

About UMA

Mission: The Urban Manufacturing Alliance works to transform and reshape manufacturing ecosystems into drivers of just and equitable development that puts communities first. We partner with and convene a diverse network of partners to learn, share, co-design, and scale solutions in which people, places, businesses, and the planet can heal and thrive.

Values: We believe that manufacturing is good for cities: a vibrant urban manufacturing sector offers unique pathways for diverse residents to share in economic prosperity through manufacturing employment, entrepreneurship, and business ownership. An authentic, inclusive local manufacturing economy also reinforces and celebrates a city’s unique cultural assets and pride of place.

Team: UMA Staff works remotely and maintains a relatively flat organizational structure. We are committed to equity in pay and leadership/growth opportunities. We manage programs and people in a matrixed environment, so staff will often be part of a variety of work circles that focus on projects, programs, and organizational strategy. We believe in peer feedback and have a growth mindset to encourage the knowledge, skills, and abilities of every individual.
