Why Support the Urban Manufacturing Alliance

UMA is a coalition of 350 members across 100 cities who are sustaining and growing manufacturing in urban centers. Through conferences, original research, policy development, and our newly launched Communities of Practice, UMA is working to ensure that cities continue to be places where we make things.

Manufacturing matters, and it matters deeply to the health and vitality of cities. A strong urban manufacturing base supports innovation, sustains living-wage jobs which provide a crucial pathway to the middle class, promotes workforce inclusion, and increasingly advances environmental sustainability.

UMA is supporting manufacturing in cities across the country by:

  • Fostering best-practice exchanges among our members to improve, replicate, and disseminate economic development tools, from workforce development to zoning;
  • Providing a national voice on the urban manufacturing renaissance through reports, toolkits, webinars, and a platform for the work of our members; and
  • Building a movement that promotes UMA’s shared values around sustainable and equitable economic development that encourages small- and mid-sized manufacturers in urban areas, and the living-wage jobs they support

Founding Sponsor Opportunity

UMA is entering a period of significant expansion. A coalition that began in 2011 by Pratt Center for Community Development and SFMade, UMA has hosted three national conferences and three regional gatherings; led local brand launches in New York, San Francisco, and Chicago; and authored reports and toolkits on issues ranging from local branding to industrial incentive programs. To mark UMA’s newly designated 501(C)(3) status, we are now identifying Founding Sponsors that will help us expand our reach in cities across the U.S. and deepen our partnerships with our members. By joining our coalition as a Founding Sponsor before June 30th, 2016, you will receive:
