As you know, UMA’s mission is to strengthen urban manufacturing to create and retain well-paying manufacturing jobs that are accessible to all. We see a vibrant urban manufacturing sector as critical to advancing more equitable economic growth.

We now have close to 700 members across 150 cities (in the US and beyond). They represent participants in the manufacturing ecosystem in their cities and include practitioners with non-profit organizations, community groups, local governments, academic institutions, and others.

UMA programming is based on a commitment to share research and experience, to collaborate in program development, and to lift up what works so that members become better practitioners and their cities have thriving local economies. We’re a national organization serving and accountable to our local partners.

As we enter a new season, we are actively seeking to enlarge our Board of Directors with candidates that reflect the diversity of the stakeholders we work with, including race, gender, geography, and the work they do.

Candidates must not only believe that a vibrant manufacturing sector is an important economic and community development strategy, but also that the practice is improved and that local economies are strengthened through inclusion and collaboration.

My experience with UMA has been incredibly rewarding. It is a great vehicle for learning what is happening all around the country and contributing to a more equitable economic future in my own city, and across the country.

I invite you to review our job description and our application, and either apply yourself or share this opportunity with others. We will be accepting applications on a rolling basis and are looking to add up to four or five new Directors over the course of 2018-19. I encourage you to submit your application promptly, with the understanding that we may be reaching out to you as late as Fall 2019.

To apply, please fill out the application and submit your CV/resume to our Program Director, Katy Stanton (katys@urbanmfg.org). She is also available to answer any questions.

Thank you,

Adam Friedman
